> modifies my settings from the previous version

But it doesn't really. They treat it like any other setting changes in updates. If you use the previous default, you'll get the new default. If you customized your search engine, that it will keep your customizations.

So, they are changing google to yahoo, because they don't know if that's your personal choice, or if you just never bothered to change the previous defaults.

They use the same policy for every default on your system. From pulseaudio defaults to theme defaults, etc.

Why piss on this?

My problem: I think it's _very_ bad that an upgrade process modifies my settings from the previous version. At least I've read many blog posts today, that after ubuntu upgrade the search engine is not google anymore which was used in the previous version so many users think it's _their_ settings/choice and and an upgrade does not have the right to modify. In case of a new ubuntu installation the process is different of course, then it makes sense that a default settings should have somehow ...

Meh, I usually just change it to Wikipedia (en) for the default search as I'm setting things up.

I use Google as my homepage, so no big deal, it's just a default.
